Percussion workshops can be enjoyed by anyone. From young to old, beginner to experienced.

• Learn some simple rhythms.

• Learn how different rhythms interact. How the sound is woven together into an intricate pattern.

• Learn how the different sounds of the instruments combine to produce the 'song'.

• Learn how to 'stick' the drums.

For the more experienced, familiarise yourself with some classic rhythms such as 'Nanigo' and 'Bossanova'.

Experiment with different time signatures and develop your improvisation within the group.

Derek has gained much experience working with a variety of individuals and groups ranging in age and ability.

He has taught in educational establishments, both primary and secondary, as well as special needs schools.

He has been involved in many community projects either running workshops on his own or in collaboration with other artists.

Some of these projects have resulted in a full scale performance piece.

Derek can supply a wide range of instruments for the workshop, from African kPanLogo drums to the Celtic bodhran.
